On the last day of a memorable 2020 I’m reflecting on the year behind me and looking forward to 2021.
In the beginning of March it became clear that 2020 would not be like any other year and that planning events and exhibitions would be difficult. Still I had a creative and productive year.
My work was selected for a group exhibition in South Korea – a country where my work had never before been exhibited – and I found two new business partners in Asia. It was also a year that had many people going online to order my art, and I sold so many small and large works to people all over the world. I’m very thankful for that.
I found my work in the spotlights in several collections on Saatchi Art, including Best Paintings of 2020 and Best Photography of 2020. Plus one of my projects was selected as one of 10 favourite art projects of 2020 on the renowned contemporary art platform ArtConnect.
Lockdown encounters
The many lockdowns made it near impossible to meet people, but together with my agent Virginia Damtsa I’m exploring future possibilities.
And thanks to the internet, it’s of course also possible to meet new people online. That’s how I started a collaboration with German musician and DJ Maria die Ruhe, where I create the artwork for her own releases and releases on her new label RTTR. This project will continue in 2021. I even found some time to create new music myself. More on this in a later blog post!
Artistic freedom
As you can see this is my first blog post. The reason why I decided to start blogging is a pretty simple one. Social media just doesn’t offer me the possibilites and depth I’m looking for. Besides I don’t like to be totally dependent on all the rules and limitations of the social media companies that had such a negative impact on our society in the past years. Censorship, fake news, trolls, algorithms, they all pose threats to our freedoms. On my own website I I am free to post whatever I like. For me as an artist that is essential!
I would like to thank everybody for their support and co-operation in 2020, and I’m looking forward to a new year with new opportunities!
